Overview
At EARV Tech, we believe your domain name is your business identity. This policy explains how a client may unlink a domain from EARV Tech’s services and take full ownership and control of it, including the fee and requirements involved.
What “Unlinking” Means
Unlinking a domain means ending EARV Tech’s management of your domain and handing full control to you. Depending on your situation, this includes one or both of the following:
- Domains registered through EARV Tech: transferring the domain from EARV Tech’s registrar or hosting account into an account you own.
- Domains registered in your name: removing EARV Tech’s access and disconnecting the domain’s DNS, hosting, and email settings so that you, or another provider you choose, control them.
Domain Unlinking Fee
A one-time flat fee of $75 per domain applies. This covers unlocking the domain, issuing the transfer authorization code, exporting your DNS records, removing our access, and the time needed to complete the handoff. The fee is separate from any charges the receiving registrar may apply.
The fee is waived for clients who have been in active, good standing with EARV Tech for 12 months or longer.
Requirements Before Release
- A written request sent to info@earvtech.com from the primary contact on your account.
- All outstanding invoices paid in full.
- The $75 unlinking fee paid (unless waived as described above).
- An account with a registrar of your choice, ready to receive the domain, if the domain is registered through EARV Tech.
Payment
The unlinking fee may be paid by Square (card or invoice) or by cash. Work begins once payment is received.
Timeline
Once all requirements are met and payment is received, we will release the domain, or complete the disconnection, within 5 business days. Transfers between registrars are also subject to ICANN rules. A domain may be locked from transfer for 60 days after it was first registered, last transferred, or had its registrant contact changed. Completion of the transfer may take up to 5 to 7 days after we release the authorization code, depending on the receiving registrar.
Important Notes
- Domain registration renewals paid before the transfer are non-refundable.
- Unlinking a domain may take your website, email, or other services offline if they depend on it. We will work with you to plan the changes, but EARV Tech is not responsible for downtime that occurs after control is handed to you or your new provider.
- Website hosting, maintenance, and support agreements are separate. Unlinking a domain does not cancel them, and cancelling them does not by itself unlink your domain.
